In September 2018 we embarked on an expedition aboard the Ocean Endeavour to sail the Northwest Passage. However, just like Franklin, we were thwarted by ice. An abnormal amount of "permanent" ice forming the polar ice cap broke away and was blown south into the passage from Coronation Gulf to Lancaster Sound. With daily and sometimes hourly route changes, based on the constantly changing satellite generated ice charts, we made our way out of Lancaster Sound north past Devon Island, up the coast of Ellesmere Island and then down the northwest coast of Greenland. We saw and experienced some incredible things.
